Gian Piero Gasperini did not field a very strong side and this was visible in their performance. Defence, as mentioned in the preview, was weak and scattered, it was totally unorganised and the team as a whole was very disoriented. Strikers were useless and missed a lot of chances. Statistically speaking, Inter had 19 shots and failed to convert even 1 of those chances into goals. Possession was almost equal with the Italians keeping the ball for 52% of the total time. A weak defence, alongwith a unfamiliar attack, was the main reason for their embarrasing 0-1 loss at home to Champions League minnows Trabzonspor.
Coming to the Turkish side, they played decently and had 1 shot on target out of a total of 7 shots. Ondrej Celustka was on the scoresheet with a 76th minute goal. Halil Altintop shot from 12 yards and hit the woodwork before Ondrej Celustka slotted home a late winner for the Turkish team.
A high-intensity game, a total of 6 yellow cards were shown to players from both teams. A good win and a morale booster for Trabzonspor, whereas Gesperini continues to get unwanted results and is in danger of losing his job after only 2 competitive matches.
Verdict:
A good win for the Turkish side. This win and a few home wins could help them advance to the next round of this coveted trophy. However, Inter still look a little unstable and need some changes and a new outlook if they are to win matches in the future. Old players of Inter should now retire and make way for new players in the same way as Manchester United. A new approach should be used for every game and the team chemistry should be restored by a new managerial team.
Final Score Internazionale 0-1 Trabzonspor.
